LUIS FLORES HELPS DOMINICAN REPUBLIC TO SILVER MEDAL AT PAN AM GAMES

Riverdale, NY (August 20, 2003)- Manhattan College senior guard Luis Flores was a member of the Dominican Republic men's basketball team that won the silver medal at the Pan Am Games, played August 2-6 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Flores, recently named to the Wooden Award Preseason All-America Team, averaged 6.8 points and 2.6 rebounds over his team's five games, shooting 44.4% (12-27) from the floor and 94.7% (18-19) from the free throw line.

The Dominican Republic team posted a 2-1 record in the qualifying rounds, defeating Mexico (72-67) and Canada (90-88) in its first two games, before falling to Brazil (92-77) in the final qualifying game.

In the semifinals, Flores' team defeated Puerto Rico (79-65), setting up a rematch with Brazil for the gold medal. The Brazilian squad won that game 89-62, and the Dominican Republic team was awarded the silver medal.

Flores' best game came against Canada in the qualifying rounds. In that game, Flores scored 17 points on three-of-five shooting from the floor, including two three pointers, and nine-of-10 shooting from the free throw line. He added three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in that game.

Flores, who averaged 24.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as a junior, returns to Riverdale for his senior season as the Jaspers will defend their MAAC Championship and look for a return trip to the NCAA Tournament.
