POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Baseball team (6-5, 1-0 MAAC) bounced back over the Red Foxes of Marist University (0-11, 0-1 MAAC) by a score of 12-10 inside Heritage Financial Park on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Opening conference play at Marist after having its midweek contest against Yale cancelled, the Jaspers were looking for its sixth victory of the season, and first in MAAC play.
- With the Green and White trailing by two mid way through the third inning, Manhattan loaded the bases with three consecutive walks, before Colin Basehore was able to drive home both Best and Lewis from the left side to tie the game at two.
- Loading up the bases for a second time were the Green and White, with Justin Best capitalizing after getting plunked by a pitch to work in the go-ahead run.
- Then, with the bases remaining loaded, it was Ryan Lordier with a two RBI base knock to give the Jaspers a three-run cushion.
- Two batters later in the fifth, it was Basehore and Matthews who found their way aboard with a single and walk, respectively to cross the sixth and seventh runners for Manhattan.
- After the Red Foxes posted six in the home half of the fifth inning, the Jaspers bounced back in the eighth inning with Jeremy Sosa's triple to drive home Guriyandel Salva and tie the game at eight.
- One batter later, Vincent Samuel continued his amazing stretch by reaching first on a Red Fox miscue to bring home Sosa from third.
- Then, the Jaspers added another insurance tally with Andreaus Lewis providing a much needed base knock to drive home Samuel.
- In the visiting half of the ninth, the Green and White put the Red Foxes away with another two runs off a balk and sacrifice fly courtesy of Payton Matthews and Sosa.
STATS AND NOTES
- Infielder Ryan Lordier went 3-for-4 went two RBI's a walk, two runs scored, and stole two bases on the afternoon.
- Outfielder Colin Basehore accrued two hits in five at-bats, with three RBIs.
- Outfielder Jeremy Sosa recorded a triple, two RBI's, crossed the plate twice, and two walks in the game.
- Catcher Andreaus Lewis registered one hit, walked twice, and scored two runs.
- Outfielder Payton Matthews went 1-for-3 with one RBI, and two walks.
- Starting pitcher Connor Throneberry logged the victory over the Red Foxes with an eight-strikeout performance, while surrendering five hits in 4.2 innings of work.
- Relief pitcher Hudson Pergamit entered the game in relief by tossing 20 pitches in two innings of work, while punching out three in eight batters faced.
