FAIRFIELD, CT – The Manhattan Jaspers Baseball team (6-9, 1-3 MAAC) dropped the series opener to the Stags of Fairfield University (4-9, 2-2 MAAC) by a score of 11-2 inside Don '63 and Chris '88 Cook Field on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the home half of the first inning, and the Stags threatening with a runner on second, starting pitcher Connor Throneberry struck out the final two batters, looking, to strand the Stag in scoring position across the way.
- Defense continued to reign supreme for the Green and White, with Andreaus Lewis throwing out Fairfield's Spencer across the way after the Stags attempted to steal on the graduate catcher.
- With the Jaspers falling behind by one in the home half of the second, the Green and White responded in booming fashion with Colin Basehore smashing a two-out solo home run to right field to tie the game at one.
- In the top of the fifth, the Jaspers found some more bat magic with Trevor Hansen launching a one-out solo home run over the left field wall, to pull within three against Fairfield.
STATS AND NOTES
- Outfielder Colin Basehore posted a 2-for-4 afternoon that featured one home run, while crossing the plate on the same sequence.
- Infielder Trevor Hansen tallied a home run in a 1-for-4 day, struck out once, and crossed the plate one time.
- Catcher Andreaus Lewis went 1-for-3 with one walk.
