RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball team (9-16, 5-9 MAAC) could not complete its spectacular comeback effort against the Peacocks of Saint Peter's University (13-8, 10-3 MAAC) and fell by a score of 80-75 inside Draddy Gymnasium on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trailing by as much as 17 through the first eight minutes of the contest, the Jaspers figured things out with Fraser Roxburgh posting seven straight points on his own, highlighted by a booming triple to cut Saint Peter's deficit to single digits.
- Powering his way down low was Anthony Isaac, after Terrance Jones was unsuccessful on the tip in attempt. It was Isaac who added an additional two points to cut the deficit to two possessions with six minutes remaining in the half.
- Just two minutes later, Isaac did it again after Jaden Winston was unsuccessful on his driving layup, where he put back another two under distress, and drew a foul after making the bucket.
- The Jaspers and Peacocks exchanged baskets, before ending the half trailing by as much as eight with an additional two three-point baskets from Saint Peter's to re-widen its margin for a second time.
- Out of the locker room was Winston netting a much needed three-pointer, taking advantage of a Saint Peter's traveling violation to cut the deficit to as little as three.
- Manhattan would fall behind by double-digits again but continued to show resiliency by netting nine straight points in a three-minute span that featured Quron Elliott with four by himself, and culminating with Roxburgh, again, nailing another triple to cut the Peacocks' lead to just one.
- Both teams went back and forth again, before Roxburgh supplied his fourth triple with three and a half minutes remaining but was ultimately not enough against Saint Peter's.
