PONCE, PR – The Manhattan Jaspers Baseball team (0-1) fell to the Sycamores of Indiana State (1-0) by a score of 10-3 inside Estadio Francisco Montaner on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jaspers opened their season under now-Head Coach Steven Rosen, with a new look roster.
- After the Sycamores struck first with a couple of runs, it was Andreaus Lewis who smacked a solo round-tripper over the left field fence to cut Indiana State's lead in half.
- The Green and White's starting pitcher in Connor Throneberry kept things status quo in the home half of the third inning by forcing a pair of pop-ups to the middle infield to allow the Jaspers to respond.
- Right on cue, was Manhattan, who sent Vincent Samuel to the plate for his second Jasper at-bat, and hit a no-doubter home run over the left field fence to bring the Jasper deficit to just one run.
- The opposition added an additional seven runs throughout the remainder of the game, before Samuel doubled into left field to advance Justin Best and drive home Josiah Brown for the team's third run of the afternoon.

QUOTES FROM THE JASPERS:
Head Coach
Steven Rosen: "Good to see the boys back on the field and competing from the first pitch to the last. Threw some punches all game long and stayed competitively on the barrel with hard contact throughout the whole game. A lot of quality at bats up and down the lineup. Tough to win games giving up as many free passes as we did - but a lot of good takeaways within our process to build on."
