HAMDEN, CT – Despite five players in double-figures, the Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball team (8-13, 4-6 MAAC) fell to the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University (13-7, 6-3 MAAC) in overtime by a score of 98-92 inside M&T Bank Arena on Monday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Opening the game trailing by eight just four minutes in, Anthony Isaac jump-started the Jaspers with a driving layup, before he was able to use his height to capitalize on a second chance basket after an initial Terrance Jones miss.
- Seven minutes into the game, the Jaspers were trailing by a pair of possessions before the combination of Fraser Roxburgh and Jaden Winston brought Manhattan back within four.
- The Green and White slowly mounted its comeback after the slow start, capitalized by Roxburgh and Erik Oliver-Bush with back-to-back baskets, courtesy of Quinnipiac's traveling call.
- With Jaden Winston continuing to climb the steal ladder, the junior guard logged his third steal before sinking the floating jumper to bring Manhattan's deficit to just one.
- Then, Dinkins netted the tying basket off a layup before Marko Ljubicic joined the defensive party with a steal to give Roxburgh an opportunity to give the Jaspers their first lead of the afternoon.
- Building off his career afternoon against Siena was freshman guard Quron Elliott, who capitalized on Isaac's offensive carom to net his first second-chance bucket of the day.
- Both teams traded baskets before Terrance Jones netted a deafening three-pointer to tie the game at 35 with seconds remaining in the stanza, before Quinnipiac went back in front into the locker room.
- Coming out of the room red hot were the Green and White, who supplied four three pointers in a span of as many minutes to take a three-possession lead, courtesy of Devin Dinkins and Jaden Winston, three times and twice, respectively.
- With a double-digit lead, defense turned to offense for the Jaspers with Devin Dinkins adding another three-pointer to give the Green and White its largest lead, at 15, and continue its run of 23-10 in the first eight minutes of the stanza.
- The Bobcats would mount their comeback inside their home building, before Terrance Jones took advantage of a Quinnipiac miscue to keep the lead at two possessions, before Jaden Winston kept his hot shooting alive with another three.
- With seconds remaining, and leading by one, the Bobcats were looking for an insurance bucket, but Roxburgh denied Asim Jones down low, before Dinkins gave Manhattan an 80-79 lead with 16 seconds remaining.
- With just six seconds remaining, Quinnipiac controlled the possession and attempted multiple shots before Amarri Monroe was fouled by Winston down low and eventually secured just one free-throw to send the game to overtime, tied at 80.
- In overtime and trailing by five two and a half minutes in, the Jaspers were able to bring it back within one courtesy of Dinkins off a second chance turnaround bucket.
- Both teams would play the foul game until eight seconds left, with Quron Elliott adding a pair of fast break points to the ledger to cut the Bobcats' lead to four, but it was ultimately not enough after Quinnipiac made the next two free throws to re-extend its lead to six.
