HAMDEN, CT – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Volleyball team (3-21, 1-13 MAAC) fell in its conference contest to the Bobcats from Quinnipiac University (15-11, 12-2 MAAC) in four sets (16-25, 19-25, 25-23, 16-25) at Burt Kahn Court on Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- As the Bobcats jumped out to a quick 10-4 advantage, the Jaspers utilized three kills from Katie Powers, Hanna Kaczynska, and Emilia Kuzniar in that order to cut their deficit to three midway through the first set.
- Continuing a trend from just a night ago, Manhattan brought their inside game to the second set, including twice in their first four points, both in the dual fashion from Kaczynska and Powers.
- With Quinnipiac looking to increase their margin, the Green and White used a block to capture six out of seven points in an exciting stretch, forcing a Bobcat timeout.
- Back-to-back service aces from the home team's Carola Negron Diaz put the Jaspers' backs against the wall, ultimately succumbing by a score of 25-19.
- Balanced play became the theme of set number three, as a 4-1 run including kill sfrom Brooke Johnson and Abby Morreale put the visitors on top 10-9.
- The score saw six more ties from 10-10 to 15-15, before six unanswered Quinnipiac points flipped the script late.
- Now facing a 20-15 hole, the Jaspers dug deep to claw their way back to a one point margin, forcing yet another Bobcat stoppage.
- Two VanDyke kills highlighted a run of four straight points to end the set, giving Manhattan their first set win of the night.
- Johnson's insertion as a sub in the fourth set was felt immediately, with her kill giving the visitors an early 6-5 lead.
- A 7-1 Quinnipiac run put them back in the driver's seat, as Manhattan then called a timeout themselves.
- Despite another Kaczynska kill putting the Jaspers within three, the Bobcats would never relinquish control again, ending the night in four.
