PROVIDENCE, RI – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Volleyball team (0-7), in their first day at the Friar Classic, dropped their opening match to host Providence in three sets (14-25, 13-25, 9-25) inside Alumni Hall on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Manhattan scored three of the match's first four points, highlighted by a dual block from Emma Francesconi and Abby Morreale.
- Two Hanna Kaczynska skills stood out as the Jaspers extended their lead to 8-6 in the opening stanza.
- Following a midway surge from the hosts, another kill from Katie Powers shortened the visitor's deficit at 14-12.
- Providence used a 11-2 stretch to take the opening set 25-14.
- The home team flipped the script for the second dance, taking a 10-3 advantage in the blink of an eye.
- A service ace from Francesconi was part of three unanswered scores from the Green and White, but Providence did not waver their attack and won the second set 25-13.
- Two attack errors early in the third set trimmed Manhattan's deficit to 8-4.
- Kaczynska teamed up with Brooke Johnson for a pair of kills, scoring the Jaspers' seventh and eighth points.
- Providence set the tone the rest of the way, winning the final set 25-9 along with the match.
STATS AND NOTES
- Sophomore right side Hanna Kaczynska led the way in kills for the Green and White, tallying seven.
- Sophomore outside hitter Emma Francesconi registered the lone service ace for the Jaspers.
- Manhattan hit at their best rate in the opening set, with a .111 clip.
- Junior setter Ori Briger spread the most wealth, serving up 11 assists on the evening.

Head Coach Brooke Alverson and the Jaspers will conclude their weekend at the Friar Classic tomorrow (Saturday), September 12. The Green and White will start with the Crusaders of Holy Cross at 11:00 AM and wrap up with the Skyhawks of Stonehill at 3:30 PM inside Alumni Hall.
