NON-CONFERENCE NEWS AND NOTES
-Manhattan will open the season at Maryland on Monday, Nov. 4. The Jaspers and Terrapins are set to meet for the first time since 2006 when Manhattan won 87-84 in College Park in the second round of the NIT. The win snapped a 29-game home winning streak against non-conference opponents for Maryland. And although Manhattan has not faced a Big 10 team since 2014, the Jaspers have 20 wins all-time versus Big 10 opponents. The trip to Maryland will be a homecoming for Jaden Winston and nearby Washington D.C. native Devin Dinkins. Last season, Maryland went 16-17, posting their lowest win total since the 2021-2022 season when they went 15-17.
-On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Manhattan will host Mercy University of the East Coast Conference (Division II).
-Up next, on Friday, Nov. 15, Manhattan will host Fordham in the annual Battle of the Bronx. The Jaspers hold a 59-55 advantage over Fordham in the all-time series that dates back to 1907. Manhattan and Fordham have split the last 4 meetings, with both Jaspers head coach John Gallagher and Rams head coach Keith Urgo getting their first taste of the rivalry a season ago.
-On short rest, Manhattan will make the trip to Teaneck, New Jersey to face NEC foe Fairleigh Dickinson which will conclude a home and home series between both schools. The Knights are led by second-year head coach Jack Castleberry who assumed the reins from current Iona head coach Tobin Anderson before the start of last season. Last season, FDU visited Draddy Gym and dealt Manhattan a 76-71 loss on December 8.
-On Friday, Nov. 22, Manhattan will return to the friendly confines of Draddy Gym where they will face Army. The meeting is a rematch of the Jaspers' second game at the London Basketball Classic in 2022, which resulted in a 72-71 win for the Cadets. Army's top offensive weapon, Jalen Rucker, was held to 11 points on 4-12 shooting in that game. Rucker, a career 15 points per game scorer, is entering his senior season.
-Manhattan will travel to Charlottesville to take on ACC power Virginia on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The Jaspers and Cavaliers have only met once before — a 78-66 loss for Manhattan in the opening round of the 1993 NCAA Tournament. The Jaspers entered the match-up as a No. 11 seed in the tournament countering Virginia's No. 6 seeding. The Cavaliers are coming off a 23-11 campaign ending with a loss to Colorado State in the First 4 game in Dayton.
-Manhattan will then play host to Le Moyne on Friday, Nov. 29, marking the first meeting between both schools since the 1956-57 season. Manhattan has never lost to the Dolphins with an all-time record of 6-0. The 2024-25 season will be Le Moyne's second season in the Division I ranks after posting a 15-17 record last season.
-Manhattan will travel to Staten Island to battle Wagner on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The Seahawks are fresh off a Cinderella run to the NCAA Tournament made possible after winning the NEC Tournament as the No. 6 seed. Last season, Manhattan dropped a 68-56 decision to Wagner at Draddy Gym.
-On Saturday, Dec. 21, Manhattan will play Presbyterian College for the first time ever at the Templeton Center in Clinton, South Carolina. Presbyterian is a member of the Big South Conference.
MAAC PORTION
-Each of the 13 teams will play 20 games—10 home and 10 away—in the new format accounting for the additions of Sacred Heart and Merrimack into the MAAC.
-Each team will play 8 teams twice in a home and away format, and then the remaining four games against an opponent which they will play once. Those four games will be split between home and road.
-Manhattan's non-return games will come against Rider and Canisius on the road and Marist and Quinnipiac at home.
