Persico Named Breakout Star by Lacrosse Bucket

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Graduate student Joseph Persico was tabbed as one of the breakout players among specialists by Lacrosse Bucket on Wednesday.
 
The goalie anchored the top-scoring defense in the country—allowing only eight goals per game.
 
Persico was named First Team All-MAAC this season after he led the MAAC in GAA (8.00) and save percentage (.573). Perisco also leads Division I in goals against. Persico was a two-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Week winner.
 
Persico allowed 10 or more goals in only six of the Jaspers' 15 games this season. The graduate student held Navy to five goals in his second career start in the Jaspers' 6-5 win in Annapolis on Feb. 18. Against the Midshipmen, Persico tallied a season-high 22 saves. In MAAC games, Persico allowed only 7.50 GAA over eight league games. No MAAC team scored more than 11 goals against Persico in a game.
