EDISON, N.J. –
Pete Durocher was selected as Preseason All-MAAC while the Manhattan baseball team was selected sixth in the 2023 coaches' preseason poll.
This year, the controls of the program are in different hands, with
Dave Miller being the skipper starting this season, which kicks off in a couple of days in DeLand, Fla. with a three-game series against the Stetson Hatters.
Durocher is coming off a season in which he finished with a slash line of .350/.414/.530 while starting in all 47 games he appeared in. Against LIU, Durocher went 3-3 with four RBI and two runs. Against Saint Peter's, Durocher knocked in five runs while going 2-6 at the plate. He mashed a pair of home runs against Iona in the team's final game of the season.
The preseason favorite to raise the MAAC trophy this year at Clover Stadium are last year's champion, the Canisius Golden Griffins, garnering 116 points and seven first-place votes. Right behind Canisius is Fairfield, who secured 2 first-place votes in route to 108 points. The other two first-place votes went to Rider (1) and Marist (1) who were selected third and fourth respectively.
