Gunderson Added to Softball Staff

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College head softball coach Bridget Hurlman has announced the addition of Sarah Gunderson to her staff as assistant softball coach.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Sarah Gunderson to Manhattan College and the Jasper Softball Family," said Hurlman. "Her undeniable work ethic, extreme passion for the student-athletes she serves, and her commitment to doing whatever it takes to win a championship falls right in line with the core values of the Jasper Way.

Her growth as a rising coach within our profession and her vast connections within the Northeast/New England softball communities will immediately elevate our staff and our program. Our entire program, including our pitching staff, is extremely lucky to have her on board. "

Gunderson, a former pitcher at Rhode Island and Providence College, arrives at Manhattan after spending last season at St. Thomas Aquinas College. She helped coach the Spartans in 2023 to an ECC Softball Championship title, a 32-18 overall mark and an appearance in the NCAA Div. II East Region - 3rd Round.

Prior to St. Thomas Aquinas, Gunderson was an assistant coach at Rhode Island College. She also worked as a pitching and hitting instructor at The Backstop Softball Training Facility in Warwick, R.I.
"I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to be a part of the Jasper family and to work alongside Coach Bridget Hurlman," said Gunderson. "Manhattan College is an extremely special community and I am looking forward to bringing my passion and heart for championship culture to Riverdale."

While at URI, Gunderson was a four-year starting pitcher, a two-time Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week in 2020, and was named to the A10 All-Rookie team in 2017. Gunderson ranks in the top-10 on the program's all-time ranking of pitchers with the lowest opposing batting average of .291.
Gunderson holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from URI and a master's degree in business administration from Providence College.
"I could not be more honored to work with such talented athletes and assist in developing both an elite pitching staff and program," added Gunderon. "I want to thank Athletic Director Irma Garcia, President Milo Riverso and the entire administration for this opportunity and their support."
