Softball Drops Both To Fairfield Tuesday

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan Jaspers softball team (14-30, 9-13 MAAC) fell in both their contests against the Stags from Fairfield (23-20, 15-5 MAAC), by the final scores of 9-1 and 6-2 at Gaelic Park on Tuesday afternoon.

GAME ONE: Manhattan 1, Fairfield 9 (F/6)

  • Fairfield wasted no time getting on the board in the matinee, as the third batter of the game reached on an error to score the runner from third.
  • In the following frame, a leadoff homer doubled that initial advantage through two.
  • Later in the third, a two-RBI double multipled the lead by two once again, as the score showed 4-0 through three.
  • Lainey Brown got the Jaspers on the board with her solo deep shot to right-center field, her seventh of the season.
  • The Stags brought their offense to life in the sixth, piling on an extra five, highlighted by an RBI double.
  • Despite Brown reaching scoring position in the home half, the first bout ended early via run rule.
GAME TWO: Manhattan 2, Fairfield 6
  • Contrary to game one, defense held for the first three innings, with the two teams combining for five hits.
  • Starter Natalye DeBus got out of a one out, bases loaded jam in the top of the third, securing a looking strikeout and popout in consecutive fashion.
  • By the fourth, two RBI singles put Fairfield up 2-0 through four.
  • A back-to-back sequence of a DeBus single and Brown sacrifice fly tied the ballgame at two apiece through five.
  • Fairfield responded in the sixth with a solo home run to retake the lead at 3-2 at the end of six.
  • Three insurance runs came home in the road half of the seventh, all by a three-run shot with runners on second and third.
  • Manhattan was unable to generate any offensive chances in the final frame, ending the nightcap.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Sophomore utility player Brianna Estevez led the team with three hits out of her seven at-bats.
  • Freshman infielder Lainey Brown accumulated her seventh home run of 2026, now second amongst the Jaspers.
