RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan Jaspers softball team (15-37, 10-18 MAAC), after honoring seniors Sophia Kiseloski and Jamie Falotico, fell in their season finale against the Gaels from Iona (24-24, 18-10 MAAC), by the final score of 11-0 in five innings at Gaelic Park on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams left two on base in the opening inning, heading to the second still scoreless.
- A deep shot to right field got the scoring started for the visitors in the second stanza, later followed up by an RBI single to double that initial advantage at 2-0 through two.
- Iona's Brianna Fischer sent another ball over the fence in the third, giving the Gaels their third run of the day.
- Manhattan's greatest offensive chance came in the fourth, using a two out rally to put Falotico in scoring position, but a subsequent flyout sent the game to the fifth.
- A bases loaded walk and wild pitch in the top half of the fifth put the road team up six.
- A two-RBI double increased that edge to eight, with a later three-run home run putting the final runs on the board, as Iona won by a final score of 11-0 via run rule.
STATS AND NOTES
- Freshman infielder Lainey Brown was the lone Jasper to earn two hits in the game, while also securing her ninth double of the season.
- Senior infielder Jamie Falotico also tallied a hit in her final game for the Green and White.
