Odierna Adds Surman to Coaching Staff

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – John Odierna, who was promoted to head coach in June, has announced the addition of Chad Surman to the Manhattan men's lacrosse coaching staff.

Surman said, "I'm excited to join the Manhattan men's lacrosse program. As I learned more about Manhattan College and the men's lacrosse program, it became very clear that there is a ton of passion and commitment from the Jasper community. I'm grateful for the opportunity Coach Odierna has provided and look forward to getting to work right away with the Jaspers."

Most recently, Surman was at Mercer (Ga.) for the last seven seasons, with the final two coming as the Bears' head coach. Surman leaves the Bears as the program's second-winningest coach and coached seven student-athletes who made All-SoCon teams, 16 SoCon Academic All-Conference selections, 44 SoCon Academic Honor Roll members, and one CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.

"I'm thrilled to add Chad Surman to our staff," said Odierna. "I've always had tremendous respect for Chad, both when we played against each other in college and watching him rise in the coaching world over the past decade. Chad's work ethic and experience both as a head coach and assistant will be a huge asset to our program, and I can't wait to watch him get to work with our student-athletes!"

In 2022, Manhattan won the MAAC Title for the first time in 20 years, beating St. Bonaventure 8-7. The Jaspers then faced Vermont in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
