RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The 2022 portion of the men's golf season gets underway for Manhattan on Saturday when the Jaspers open at the South Jersey Spring Kick hosted by Iona.
FROM COACH WILDERMUTH
The team is excited to get back outside and start playing golf again and competing. We have a great spring tournament schedule, which will help us prepare for the MAAC Championship in Orlando this April. This weekend we are playing the Iona Spring Invitational outside Atlantic City. This is our first event of the spring and will help us work out any rust that we have before heading out to Daytona Beach for several days for the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational.
Leading by six strokes at LIU's event after the first round last fall showed the guys that we could play. We must stay in the present and always stay positive.
The team's goals for the spring involve more process-oriented goals. Each player needs to focus on what he needs to work on to improve. If we strengthen our weaknesses stay disciplined, then the results will come. Focusing on your final score isn't going to help. One of the goals I've been setting for the team is simply body language. Heads up, shoulders back, and a confident walk. Everyone has weaknesses in their golf games, and that is what we will be working on this spring. It's so easy to go out there and work on your strengths because it is fun and comfortable.
'22 SCHEDULE
The Jaspers compete in five regular-season invitationals before the 2022 MAAC Championships in Orlando, Fla. The Jaspers open at Iona, then travel to the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational on March 11. Manhattan ends the month with the Battle at Rum Point Invitational hosted by the Gaels.
In April, the Jaspers participate in the Columbia Spring Invitational in Springfield, Pa. The Green and White wrap the regular season in Clarence, N.Y., in the Shark Invitational, hosted by LIU.
