Davis, Warley Named Team Captains

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan Women's Basketball Head Coach Heather Vulin has announced that junior Dee Dee Davis and graduate student Courtney Warley have been slated as captains for the 2021-22 season.

"We are very excited to announce Courtney and Dee Dee as the captains for the team this year," said Vulin. "Both ladies have earned the respect and support of their teammates by their play, their approach and their commitment to our women's basketball program. They embody our #playGREEN mentality, and with having eight new players on the team this year, they impressed me with their leadership of such a young group and I truly appreciate all the extra time they have put in to mentor and lead. This is a special group and I know Courtney and Dee Dee will do a terrific job!"

Warley, who will be a captain for the fourth-straight year, earned All-MAAC Second Team honors last season after averaging a double-double with 11.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Off the court, Warley is equally accomplished, as she was one of two Manhattan nominees for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award this past spring, was named as one of 30 finalists for the prestigious Senior Class Award and was voted the 2019-20 Manhattan College Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

"I'm thankful for another opportunity to play with and lead the team this year as a captain," said Warley. "I think this year is going to be really exciting with this new group, and glad that Dee's efforts have been recognized to take a bigger role during this journey."

After missing the previous season due to injury, Davis bounced back to join Warley on the All-MAAC Second Team, ranking sixth in the MAAC in scoring at 12.8 points per game. One of the top scorer threats in the MAAC, she registered double-digits in points on 17 occasions, while pacing the squad a team-best nine times.

"Being named a captain to me, meant being THE example and setting the tone at all times," said Davis. "This also meant being indisputably mentally tough, and remaining confident in this teams' abilities, at all times."

Last season, Manhattan posted its best MAAC winning percentage (.750) since the 2002-03 season, en route to registering a 12-8 record, including 9-3 during league play, and won its first postseason game since the 2011-12 season in the WBI.
