RIVERDALE, N.Y. - In continued anticipation for the upcoming 2026-27 basketball season starting in November, Manhattan University's women's basketball program has added a transfer prospect in Spanish-born Laia Izquierdo Altimira, announced by Head Coach Heather Vulin on Tuesday morning.

Izquierdo Altimira spent her first two seasons at McCook Community College of the NJCAA, and will conclude a stellar transfer class for the Green and White.

"We are thrilled to welcome Laia to our program. She is a dynamic offensive threat who can score and create for herself at a high level. What truly stands out is her unselfishness, as she is a very willing passer who consistently looks to make plays for her teammates." commented Vulin.

Across two years competing for the Indians, she averaged 9.9 points per night, including 13.2 in her sophomore season. She also put up marks of 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

"Laia's size and skill set give us great versatility, allowing her to play both the wing and post positions." continued Vulin.

During her sophomore season in 2025-26, a hot stretch in the latter part of the season saw her score at least 17 points in nine of her final 17 contests. She also tallied 10 or more rebounds twice, including a career-high of 12 in a season-opening win over Eastern Wyoming College.

"Laia's high basketball IQ and competitive edge make her a perfect fit for our culture, and we are excited to get her on campus." concluded Vulin.
