Tighe Headlines Jaspers' MAAC 40th Anniversary Team

Edison, NJ - Manhattan great Sheila Tighe tops the Jaspers' MAAC 40th Anniversary women's basketball team, released today by the conference as a part of a year-long campaign celebrating the four decades since the MAAC's inception.

Tighe, Manhattan's all-time leading scorer across both the men's and women's basketball programs, is joined by fellow Jasper standouts Stacey Jack Edwards, Gina Somma, Rosalee Mason and Kayla Grimme.

Sheila Tighe (1980-84)
Tighe became just the second Jasper alum to have their jersey retired when the school honored her in a special pre-game ceremony this past November. She scored 2,412 career points in her four years at Manhattan and established eight Lady Jasper records, including most points in one game (45) and in one season (730). A two-time MAAC Player of the Year honoree, she was also named Northeast Player of the Year and received All-American accolades in 1984. In 2012, Tighe became the first Manhattan women's basketball player to be inducted into the MAAC Honor Roll at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Stacey Jack Edwards (1983-87)
Jack Edwards graduated second on the Jaspers' all-time basketball list with 1,665 career points and 833 career rebounds. During her playing days, she ranked among the nation's top 10 with an 85 percent free throw shooting percentage in 1986, and she earned All-MAAC honors that season. An academic All-American as a senior, Jack Edwards was a member of the program's first MAAC Championship Team (1987).

Gina Somma (1992-96)
Somma capped off a tremendous career for the women's basketball program by being named MAAC Player of the Year, Metropolitan Player of the Year, and Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American as a senior, after finishing third in the nation in scoring (25.6 ppg) and leading the Lady Jaspers to the MAAC title and an NCAA berth. Somma graduated with 1,838 points and grabbed 819 rebounds, and she is the most recent Jasper to have earned a triple-double in a game, contributing 20 points, 10 rebounds and 12 steals against Fairfield on February 16, 1994.

Rosalee Mason (2000-03)
A three-time All-MAAC First Team selection, and the MAAC's all-time leading rebounder (1,217), Mason also ranks second on Manhattan's all-time scoring list (1,875). In 2002-03, she led the Jaspers to both the MAAC regular season and tournament championships and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Mason averaged 16.3 points and 10.6 rebounds during her career and grabbed more rebounds than any other player, man or woman, in school history.

Kayla Grimme (2013-18)
The program's all-time blocks leader, Grimme waved away 229 shots during her Jasper career. She also ranks fifth all-time in scoring (1,433) and third in rebounding (961), one of just two Manhattan women's basketball players to reach the 1,300-point and 900-rebound thresholds in their careers. She is a two-time All-Met Third Team selection, as well as a member of the 2017-18 All-MAAC Second Team and the 2016-17 All-MAAC Third Team.
