Edison, NJ - Manhattan great Elena Bowman tops the Jaspers' MAAC 40th Anniversary softball team, released today by the conference as a part of a year-long campaign celebrating the four decades since the MAAC's inception.
Bowman is joined by fellow Manhattan standouts Kate Bowen, Stacy Cowen, Jennifer Drum and Danielle Yearick.
Elena Bowman (2013-16)
The 2015 unanimous MAAC Player of the Year, Bowman had one of the most prolific careers in Manhattan softball history. She holds the program record for career slugging percentage at .723, as well as home runs (52), while ranking second in career RBI (154) and third all-time in both hits (201) and runs (130). A catcher, Bowman was a 2016 Senior CLASS Award Second Team All-American and a 2015 Capital One Academic All-America First Team selection. She earned All-MAAC First Team honors three times, and was named an ECAC All-Start First Team pick in 2013 and 2015. In 2016, Bowman earned a nomination for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.
Kate Bowen (2011-14)
A three-time All-MAAC honoree, she was a standout two-way performer for the Jaspers. At the plate, Bowen finished her career with a .341 average, while also establishing herself among the program leaders in hits (211), runs (122), doubles (39), home runs (18) and RBI (103). From the circle, she also ranked among the school record holders in wins (29), innings (396.0), strikeouts (170) and complete games (35). As a senior, she earned Third Team Academic All-American honors and was one of 30 finalists for the Senior CLASS award.
Stacy Cowen (1991-92)
One of the top hitters in NCAA history, her career .530 batting average continues to stand as the benchmark for all of Division I. After transferring from Onondaga Community College, she led the nation with a .581 average, 91 hits and 1.48 runs per game as a junior in 1991, while adding 14 wins as a pitcher. Cowen picked up her second All-MAAC honor as a senior, batting a robust .472, with a 24-7 mark from the circle. She also earned Academic All-American honors following her final season, and would go on to receive an invitation to the 1996 USA Olympic Softball team tryouts.
Jennifer Drum (1992-95)
The 1995 MAAC Softball Player of the Year, she hit .407 with five doubles, nine triples, six homes run and 25 RBI, while also earning TPS First Team All-Region honors. Drum boasted a career .429 batting average, while also rapping out a program-record 243 hits and scoring a school-record 173 runs. She also ranks among the program leaders in triples (36), home runs (18) and RBI (118). A three-time All-MAAC and MAAC All-Tournament team honoree, Drum also was named a GTE Academic All-American in 1995.
Danielle Yearick (1991-94)
One of the most decorated softball players in Manhattan history, she finished her career with a .361 average and ranks among the program's all-time leaders in hits (190), runs (158), doubles (30), triples (29), home runs (22) and RBI (162). Yearick earned All-MAAC honors in each of her final three seasons, and was the first Manhattan female to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, as well as the first Lady Jasper to receive GTE National Academic All-America honors.
