HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Manhattan Jaspers softball team (8-22, 4-7 MAAC), despite four runs in the first inning, fell in its non-conference contest against the Knights from FDU (7-21, 0-6 NEC), by the final score of 9-7 at FDU Softball Field on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Opening the game in thrilling fashion, both Natalye DeBus and Kaitlyn Moody blasted two-run shots in the first inning to score Samantha Kelly and Lainey Brown, respectively.
- Not taking long to respond, FDU answered over their first two turns at the plate with a combined three runs, two of which coming off a home run for the hosts.
- Kelly drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to up the Jasper advantage to two after four innings of play.
- In the fifth frame, the Knights evened up the score at five apiece after an RBI double.
- The home bats finally broke through in the sixth, with a bases-clearing double highlighting a four-run sequence to take a commanding lead into the seventh.
- For the second time in the afternoon, Moody went yard to score Brown and cut the visiting deficit down to two, but was not enough to prevail.
STATS AND NOTES
- Freshman catcher Kaitlyn Moody hit two home runs, a new career-high for a single game. The Ramona, Calif. native now has three on the season.
- Freshman utility player Natalye DeBus tallied her team-leading eighth home run of 2026, as well as two more RBI to her lead of 26.
