Jaspers To Compete In ECAC/IC4A Championships

Boston, MA - Manhattan track and field will send nine athletes to the 2020 ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships at Boston University this weekend. Competition for the Jaspers will begin on Saturday, March 7, with the men's weight throw at 10:00 am. 

MEET NOTES

Throwers
Nicholas Kocienda (Seaford, NY / Seaford) and Enrique Martinez (San Salvador, El Salvador / Barton CC) will both compete in the weight throw after a stellar indoor season. Kocienda won a silver medal in the event at the MAAC Indoor Championships last month, hitting a distance of 18.15 meters, one of only two competitors to throw over 18 meters on the day. Martinez is the reigning Metropolitan Champion in the event and hit a PR of 18.37 meters at the Millrose Games. 

On the women's side, Nina Bjorkman (Vasteras, Sweden / Widenska Idrottsgymnasium) and Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) will compete in the weight throw on Saturday at 2:00 pm. Bjorkman set a PR of 17.53 meters in the event at the MAAC Championships, winning silver. Preckajlo placed fifth in the event at MAACs with a distance of 16.61 meters. 

Anu Awonusi (Dublin, Ireland / Kilkenny College) is the MAAC Indoor Champion in the men's shot put and took home the league's Most Outstanding Field Performer Award at the conference championships. He will take on the shot put in Boston, as well, with competition starting at 9:30 am on Sunday. Preckajlo, who earned silver in the shot at MAACs with a PR of 14.09 meters, will compete in the women's event at 12:00 pm Sunday, alongside teammate Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) who earned bronze at MAACs. 

Distance
Freshman Andria Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceanside) will compete in the women's 3,000-meter race at 1:15 pm on Sunday. At the MAAC Championships, Scaglione placed third with a PR time of 9:40.30, beating her former PR by 15 seconds, and finishing just 1.3 seconds off of former Jasper Lisa Fajardo's school record of 9:39.00.

Sprints
Two-time MAAC 200-meter champion Niasia Boone (Morrisville, PA / Pennsbury) will compete in the event prelims at 3:20 pm on Saturday. Boone recorded a personal-best time of 24.75 in the race at MAACs, beating her former PR by nearly .20 seconds. 

Larry McCullum (Piscataway, NJ / Piscataway) will race in the men's 200-meter trials on Saturday at 3:00 pm. He finished fifth in the event finals at MAACs with a time of 22.34.
