Edison, NJ - Three Manhattan track and field athletes were awarded MAAC Performer of the Week honors on Tuesday, January 14.
Upperclassmen
Anu Awonusi (Dublin, Ireland / Kilkenny College) and
Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) each won Field Performer of the Week accolades, while freshman
Quemarii Williams (Danville, IL / Danville) was awarded Male Track Performer of the Week.
Awonusi won the men's shot put at the Robert Elkin Invitational on January 10 with a distance of 16.68 meters, topping the MAAC's best 2019-20 performers in the event. He then placed second in the men's shot put at the TCNJ Invite the following day, hitting 16.19 meters.
Padedze captured two individual wins this past weekend, including first place in the women's shot put at the Robert Elkin Invitational with a distance of 13.58 meters. She then bested that performance at the TCNJ Invitational, hitting 13.67 meters, topping the MAAC's best shot put performances of the season.
Williams holds the MAAC's best performances in the men's 400- and 800-meter races. At the Robert Elkin Invitational, he finished with a second-place showing in the men's 400-meters, earning a time of 49.94 in his first 400-meter event. The following day at the TCNJ Invite, Williams placed second in the men's 800-meter race, his first collegiate 800-meters. He finished with a time of 1:54.48.
Manhattan will compete in the Gotham Cup at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island this Friday, January 17.
