Edison, NJ - Senior defender
Adrien Awana (Bordeaux, France / University of Bordeaux) and junior forward
Berti Fourrier (Marseille, France / IFC Marseille) were selected for the Preseason All-MAAC team.
As a unit, the Jaspers were slated to finish fifth after receiving two first-place votes and 82 points in the MAAC Preseason Poll, which was voted on by the league's 11 head coaches.
In what is projected to be a wide open league, Manhattan was one of the five team to earn a first-place vote, with Fairfield receiving four en route to being selected as the league favorite with 107 points. Quinnipiac was second with 98 points, followed by defending MAAC Champion Rider (96) in third, Marist (87) in fourth and Manhattan (82) in fifth. Iona was sixth (73), followed by Saint Peter's (50), Monmouth (46), Canisius (41), Siena (31) and Niagara (15).
"We are delighted to see two of our players receive recognition, as it acknowledges the positive steps we continue to make as a program," said Head Coach
Jorden Scott. "I'm happy for them, but more for the team as they would be the first to admit that without their teammates this is not possible so these moments recognize us all. We look forward to challenging at the top of the MAAC again this year and finding the consistency needed during that tough October month."
Awana was a first team All-MAAC selection in 2018, leading a Jasper backline that surrendered a program-record 12 goals in 18 matches. In his first season in the Bronx, Awana also scored four goals, including heading in the game winner against #25 Fordham to secure first-ever victory over a ranked opponent in the program's 51-year history.
Fourrier was tabbed to the All-MAAC Second Team in 2018 after finishing fifth in the MAAC with 13 points, on the strength of four goals and a team-leading five assists.
The duo highlights nine returning starters from last year's team, which set a program record with 12 wins.
Quinnipiac's Eamon Whelan was tabbed as the Player of the Year, while league favorite Fairfield placed a league-best three student-athletes on the preseason All-MAAC team.
Manhattan will host Monroe College in an exhibition match on Friday, August 16 at 6:00 pm.
