EDISON, NJ – The Metro Conference has released its
Men's Soccer Players of the Week, which has included Manhattan's freshman goalkeeper
Philip Isaksson as Defensive Player of the Week, per release on Monday afternoon.
After making his collegiate debut five matches into the campaign, Isaksson has stormed onto the scene for the Green and White and has continued to get better every fixture played in.
Coming off a 1-0-1 week for the Jaspers, Isaksson played a pivotal role in Manhattan capturing a pair of results with a historical afternoon at Saint Peter's in the 1:0 victory over the Peacocks, by setting a new career high in saves in a single game with 13 on 23 shots faced.
In the following fixture against the Rider Broncs on Saturday evening inside Gaelic Park, Isaksson faced another 21 shots, while saving five and surrendering one goal in a full 90' on the pitch.
For the Swedish native, he became the first Jasper to record at least 11 saves in a single match, since Danny DiMarco in on September 29, 2021, when DiMarco stopped 11 on target against the Iona Gaels.
Conference wide, Isaksson became the first Metro Conference
Men's Soccer student-athlete to post at least 13 saves in a single match since Niagara's Jamie Barry, who was the last to do so on October 12, 2024, against the aforementioned Iona Gaels.
Throughout his inaugural campaign, Isaksson has started in seven of the eight fixtures appeared in, while surrendering a baker's dozen markers, posting a 1.86 goals-against-average, posting 38 saves, and logging one clean sheet in the process, just this past Wednesday at Saint Peter's.
Isaksson's .745 save percentage sits ninth in the Metro, while sitting second behind Quinnipiac's Alexander Hansen with 4.75 saves-per-match.
The Jaspers compete in its penultimate road fixture next Saturday, October 25, when the Green and White visit the Warriors of Merrimack College beginning at 6 p.m. from Martone-Mejail Field. The contest can be viewed on ESPN+ with a paid subscription.
