Philadelphia, PA - Manhattan track and field's women's 4x100 relay team qualified for the ECAC Championships with a 47.56 time at the Penn Relays Thursday, April 25.
The squad, made up of
Tiahna Mitchell (Joppa, MD / Harford Technical),
Niasia Boone (Morrisville, PA / Pennsbury),
Lisa Warfvinge (Varberg, Sweden / Peder Skrivares School) and
Amahri Boyce (Newark, NJ / North Star Academy), placed 27th in Thursday's preliminaries, also qualifying for the Penn Relay's Eastern Finals on Friday.Â
Highlights:
- Coming off her recent Metropolitan Championships win in the discus throw, Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) placed fifth overall at the Penn Relays, hitting a distance of 45.98 meters.Â
- Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) placed 16th in the women's shot put, hitting 13.65 meters.Â
- Nina Bjorkman (Vasteras, Sweden / Widenska Idrottsgymnasium), also a recent Met champion in the women's hammer throw, finished in 21st in the event Thursday, throwing a distance of 49.41 meters.Â
Up Next:
The Jaspers will continue competition at the Penn Relays, moving to five events, including the men's shot put and discus throw, the women's 4x100 Eastern finals, and the men's 4x400 preliminaries.Â
Manhattan was also scheduled to begin competition at the TCNJ Lions Invitational on Friday, but all events have been moved to Saturday due to inclement weather.
