Cassidy Burns (Massapequa, NY / Plainedge) earned the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 11, the conference announced today.
Kaishian, a two-time All-MAAC Second Team Defense member and 2016 All-Rookie selection, nabs her first-career weekly award. Burns wins her second consecutive Rookie of the Week honor. Two Jaspers have received weekly recognition for three straight weeks.
The tri-captain paced Manhattan's defense in a 2-0 week where the J's only surrendered 30 shots. Kaishian compiled 12 ground balls, including seven against the Blue Devils, as well as two caused turnovers and three draw controls. Heading into Monday, she leads the MAAC and is fourth in the nation with 4.17 ground balls per contest.
Burns totaled three goals and five assists over the week. At CCSU, the rookie scored a goal and added three assists, including on the game-winner in the second half, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control. On Saturday, she recorded two goals, two assists and three draw controls in the 13-4 win over Sacred Heart. This season, Burns leads the team and is fourth in the MAAC with nine assists. Her 15 points are tied for the second-most on the team this year.
Kaishian, Burns and the Kelly Green and White aim to build their winning streak to a program-record six games on Tuesday, March 12 when they host Drexel at 4:00 pm.
