Tallahassee, FL – Following a historic non-conference slate where it posted a 7-1 record, Manhattan men's soccer has entered the Top 30 in the College Soccer News National Poll for the week ending September 23, according to the results the website posted on Monday.
The Jaspers are slotted 30th in the poll that comprises of all Division I programs. This is the first time in program history that Manhattan has been represented in the CSN rankings.
In addition to the rank, junior defender
Adrien Awana was placed on the CSN National Team of the Week for the same time period. Awana was one of four defenders named to the list.
The Jaspers earned recognition thanks to their 1-0 upset over #25 Fordham in the Battle of the Bronx on September 18. Awana played the hero with his header off a corner kick in the 90th minute.
He was also named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for September 24.
Manhattan is one of seven teams on the CSN list that has at least seven wins on the season. Wake Forest tops the rankings with its 8-0 record, while Fordham is at the 17th spot. The Jaspers are the only MAAC program listed in the poll.
The Jaspers have excelled in multiple categories to rank in the top 25 in Division I soccer. Manhattan is 17th in the nation with 48 points and a 0.625 goals-against average, as well as 21st with 2.13 goals per game. Awana's three game-winning tallies are tied for eighth-best in Division I, while goalkeeper
Marcellin Gohier is tied for 11th with his four shutouts.
