Gohier Named Preseason All-MAAC Team Goalkeeper

MAAC Release | 2018 Season Prospectus | 2018 Roster

Edison, NJ – Manhattan men's soccer junior goalkeeper Marcellin Gohier (Pouance, France / CENS) is projected to excel once again after his stellar 2017 campaign, as he was named the goalkeeper for the 2018 Preseason All-MAAC Team, the conference announced today.

In addition, the MAAC released the 2018 Preseason Poll. The 11 head coaches voted that the Jaspers would reach the postseason for the second straight year, sliding into fifth place with 77 votes.

"We are delighted that Marcellin was recognized as it represents how well our team defended last year and the platform that offered us to go win games," said Head Coach Jorden Scott. "We need the same defensive effort this year if we want to reach our ceiling."

Gohier was a staple for Manhattan's record-setting defense in his first year as a Jasper. The junior was selected as the 2017 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year, the program's first-ever honor in that category.

THE GOHIER FILE
  • Gohier ranked eighth in the nation with a .855 save percentage on 53 stops.
  • The France native also finished 15th in Division I with a 0.62 goals-against average.
  • Gohier only allowed more than one goal in a game once in 2017, and did not allow more than one goal in a conference game.
  • He yielded five goals in over 964 minutes of MAAC play.
  • At one point in the season, he had a shutout streak that lasted 553:52 across six games.
  • His six shutouts last year were tied for third-most in a single season for a Jasper.
  • He won two straight MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Manhattan's 2018 preseason ranking is its highest since the 2014 squad was also picked to finish fifth. Last season, the Jaspers were projected ninth before ending the regular season with the fourth-best conference record and the most MAAC wins under Scott's tutelage.

The league's head coaches project Canisius to win its first MAAC title in program history, as they earned a conference-best six first-place votes and 102 overall points. The Golden Griffins also pace the conference with four Preseason All-MAAC selections.

Marist's Allen Gavilanes, fresh off winning both the 2017 Rookie and Offensive Player of the Year award, was chosen as the 2018 Preseason Player of the Year.
