Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) was tabbed as the No. 269 prospect for the 2018 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft, as announced by
Baseball America in its MLB Draft Prospects top-500 list.
In 2018, Pena hit .255 with 32 runs, 12 doubles, six home runs and a team-best matching 36 RBI en route to earning his third-straight All-MAAC honor. Pena also earned MAAC Player of the Week accolades after batting .438 with two doubles, two home runs, seven runs and eight RBI over four games at Stony Brook (3/6) and UNC Asheville (3/9-3/10).
The 2016 MAAC Rookie of the Year, Pena has started all 191 games over the last three years for Manhattan while posting a .314 average (191-of-609) with 58 doubles, 18 home runs and 122 RBI. The Miami native also played last summer for the Chatham Anglers in the prestigious Cape Cod League.
Pena will be looking to become the third Jasper in the last two years to break into the professional ranks, as
Tom Cosgrove was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 12th round of the 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft while
Jose Carrera inked a free agent contract with the New York Yankees.
