Ire Bozovicar, Kelly Gorman, and
Chad Maier have each earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly honors for their performances this past weekend at the 2018 Shamrock Invitational, the Jaspers' outdoor season opener.Â
Bozovicar (Potoki, Slovenia / Gimazija Jesenice) was named MAAC Male Field Performer of the Week after winning first place in the discus at the meet on Saturday, March 17. Hitting a distance of 53.28 meters, Bozovicar, the reigning Metropolitan outdoor champion in the discus, set a new collegiate personal best in the event. He previously earned MAAC Performer of the Week honors last outdoor season after notching sixth place in the shot put (51'7¼) at the Monmouth Season Opener in March 2017.
Gorman (South Amboy, NJ / Cardinal McCarrick) earned MAAC Female Track Performer of the Week honors after placing second in the women's 800-meter race at the Shamrock Invitational, running in a time of 2:15.67. Last year, the distance runner earned a fifth-place finish in the event at the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, while also running the anchor leg on Manhattan's silver medal-winning 4x800 relay team at MAACs.Â
Maier (Melville, NY / Walt Whitman), also a distance runner, is the MAAC's Male Track Performer of the Week. Maier took home second in the men's 3,000-meter race at the Shamrock Invitational with a time of 8:34.90. He recently ran his personal best in the indoor 3,000-meter at the 2018 MAAC Indoor Championships, running the race in 8:57.47.
The Jaspers will hit West Long Branch, NJ this weekend at the 2018 Monmouth Opener starting Friday, March 23.Â
