RIVERDALE, NY – For the second straight year, junior Briana Matazinsky (Valley Falls, NY) of the Manhattan College softball team has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team. She is now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced later this month.
Matazinsky, who was selected at designated player in 2016, was chosen as a pitcher this year. She leads the Jaspers with 13 wins. Matazinsky also ranks second on the squad with 61 strikeouts and a 2.04 ERA. She's thrown four shutouts this season and has twice been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Pitcher of the Week.
Only starters or significant reserves who have completed at least two semesters at their school with a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher are eligible for Academic All-District recognition. This marks the fifth consecutive year in which at least one Manhattan player has earned Academic All-District honors.
Manhattan has already secured its second straight 30-win season and will look to clinch its fourth consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament berth this weekend. If the Jaspers (31-17, 11-5 MAAC) sweep their doubleheaders at Quinnipiac (21-25, 7-9 MAAC) on Saturday and Iona (25-19, 14-4 MAAC) on Sunday, they will host the MAAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
