BRONX, N.Y. – The Manhattan Jaspers softball team (10-25), split its pair of contests against the Rams from Fordham (16-20), by the final scores of 3-0 and 2-5 at Bahoshy Field on Wednesday afternoon.
GAME ONE: Manhattan 3, Fordham 0
- Scoring took a long time to come along in game one, as the two teams were held to a combined one hit through the first two innings.
- Isabella Coulman and Brianna Estevez tallied the first two hits of the game in the third inning for Manhattan in that order, but an immediate fielder's choice thwarted any momentum.
- Continuing her dominance, starter Karissa Spring kept the Fordham bats at bay, holding the Rams to that sole hit through four frames.
- In the top half of the fifth, Natalye DeBus' single through the middle brought home Angelina Gencarelli to score the first run of the game.
- Consecutive hit-by-pitch's from Sophia Kiseloski and Lainey Brown with the bases loaded brought two more runs to the plate, stretching the Jasper advantage out to three by inning's end.
- The most amount of pressure that came Spring's way was in the home half of the sixth, when the bases became loaded after a walk with one out.
- Performing when it mattered most, Spring got her next two batters to hit into an infield fly and strikeout to end the inning.
- Fordham went down 1-2-3 in the seventh to end the matinee, giving Manhattan a 3-0 victory.
GAME TWO: Manhattan 2, Fordham 5
- Contrary to game one, the nightcap started with some immediate scoring, as the Rams scored two quick in the opening inning.
- An RBI single and double in the third and fourth frames, respectively, doubled the initial lead for Fordham at 4-0 before an extra run came home on an error.
- Now facing a 5-0 deficit to start the fifth, Samantha Kelly took advantage of having two runners in scoring position by blasting an RBI single through the middle of the infield to score Gencarelli.
- Madison Douglass, not to be outdone, followed up her act right away with an RBI single of her own to score Coulman.
- Despite another single in the sixth, the Jaspers were unable to generate any more offensive opportunities, ending the game at 5-2.
- Natalye DeBus' subsequent groundout ended the afternoon by a final score of 10-1.
