RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan Jaspers softball team (11-26, 6-10 MAAC), anchored by four home runs in game two, split its pair of contests against the Saints from Siena (19-11, 11-4 MAAC), by the final scores of 0-1 and 12-4 at Gaelic Park on Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE: Manhattan 0, Siena 1 (F/8)
- Even with the low amount of offense, Natalye DeBus tallied the first hit of the day for either side with a single through the right side in the opening frame.
- Three walks in the top of the third loaded the bases for the Saints, but starter Karissa Spring forced a fielder's choice for the final out to keep the game deadlocked at zero.
- The Green and White also put a runner at third base in the home half in Isabella Coulman, but a looking strikeout once again sent us to the next inning.
- A combined two hits across the final four frames put the game into extra innings.
- Siena's two-out single in the top of the eighth ended with a runner at third base after a throwing error prompted the umpires to declare a dead ball and grant two extra bags.
- Chloe Cummings singled on the following at-bat, scoring what became the lone run of the game.
- Despite Coulman singling in the bottom half, no one else was able to get on base, ending the matinee 1-0.
GAME TWO: Manhattan 12, Siena 4 (F/6)
- Contrary to game one, runs were being offered at a dime a dozen in the early going.
- After an RBI single for the Saints to open the game, Lainey Brown sent a ball towering over the right field fence following DeBus' single to give the Green and White an early 2-1 advantage.
- The Saints responded quickly in the second, sending a two-run shot of their own to left field, putting the visitors up 3-2.
- In the third, DeBus added to the home run party with the third two-run round tripper, this time scoring Samantha Kelly to regain the lead.
- Angelina Gencarelli's double down the left field line highlighted a three-run fourth inning for Manhattan, putting them up four.
- Each side exchanged sacrifice flies in the fifth, with Kaitlyn Moody getting the one for the Jaspers.
- Following a wild pitch that scored Brianna Estevez from third, Brown sent her second homer to left-center field to put the Green and White up seven.
- Four pitches later, Michayla Rodriguez ended the game in walk-off fashion, with another bomb to left ending the game by the score of 12-4.
