Campion & Jack Edwards Named To 2016 MAAC Honor Roll

Edison, NJ – The MAAC has announced that Bill Campion '75 and Stacey Jack Edwards '87 will be inducted in the MAAC Honor Roll. The honorees will be enshrined in “The MAAC Experience” exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 15.

Each member institution of the MAAC honors one male and one female from its basketball “family” as part of the 2016 induction class. A dinner event will be on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Court of Dreams to recognize the Honor Roll inductees.

Each honoree will be profiled in the game program for the 2017 MAAC Basketball Championships, and will also be featured in a video display at “The MAAC Experience.”

Bill Campion (1971-1975) Manhattan College

Bill Campion was the “giant in the middle” for the Manhattan teams that made three consecutive NIT appearances in the mid-70s.  The Jaspers' all-time leader for rebounds in a game (30), season (419) and career (1,070), he's one of just two players in program history with 1,000 points and 1,000 boards to go along with 1,223 points. He averaged 16.5 points and 14.5 rebounds each time out over 74 career games in three seasons.  As a junior in 1973-1974, Campion pulled down his aforementioned school-record 419 caroms en route to averaging 15.5 rebounds and 20.7 points each time out in winning the Haggerty Award, which is given to the top player in the metropolitan area. In 1972-1973, he became the first player in program history to grab 400 rebounds in a season (402) and notched 13.9 points and 15.5 rebounds per game. As a senior, he registered 14.3 points and 11.9 rebounds en route to leading the Jaspers to a third-straight NIT berth and a First Round victory over UMass. All told, Manhattan reached the postseason during all three seasons Campion was a member of the varsity squad before he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the fourth round of the 1975 NBA Draft. Campion, however, instead elected to played professionally in Italy before joining the Washington Generals. Campion was elected to the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986.

Stacey Jack Edwards (1983-1987) Manhattan College

Stacey Jack Edwards led Manhattan to its first-ever MAAC title in 1987. She scored 21 points in the championship game, a 79-64 victory over Holy Cross, to earn a place on the All-Tournament Team before recording a team-high 12 points against Duke in the NCAA Tournament. A three-time Second Team All-MAAC selection, Jack was an Academic All-American as a senior. As a junior, she ranked 10th nationally in free throw percentage, shooting 85.5 percent at the charity stripe. During the 1985-86 campaign, Jack established a school record that still stands by making 31 consecutive free throws. She graduated as the second-leading scorer in program history and currently ranks fourth with 1,665 career points. Jack is also fourth on the Jaspers' all-time rebounding chart (823), and her career free throw percentage of .829 is the third-best in school history. She was inducted into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.
