Joe Jacques (Shrewbury, NJ / Red Bank Regional) were named to the 2016 MAAC All-Tournament Team.
Pena, the 2016 MAAC Rookie of the Year, hit safely in all four Jasper games last week with three multi-hit performances en route to batting a blistering .421 (8-for-19) with a double, two home runs and seven RBI. After registering two hits and two RBI in a win over Monmouth, he went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI against eventual MAAC Champion Fairfield. Pena then singled and scored a run in another victory against Monmouth before going 2-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBI against Siena.
Thanks to his big tournament performance, the MAAC Rookie of the Year finished the season among the league leaders in batting (.350-4th), hits (75-2nd), doubles (22-1st), home runs (9-3rd), RBI (54-1st) and slugging (.598-1st).
Jacques joins Pena on the all-tournament team after firing a three-hitter in an elimination game victory over Monmouth. The crafty lefty struck out four and retired 16-straight at one point while facing the minimum 19 hitters over the final 6.1 innings in collecting his fifth-straight victory.
On the year, Jacques was 5-4 with a 4.30 ERA and 63 strikeouts over 75.1 innings while limiting opposing hitters to a .255 average.
