Tom Bonaro, Marisa Robbins Receive MAAC Weekly Honors

RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan College track & field team was recognized with two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly awards on Tuesday.  Tom Bonaro (Pearl River, NY) was named Men's Track Performer of the Week, while Marisa Robbins (Goshen, NY) earned Women's Field Performer of the Week honors.

Bonaro won the 800 meters at the season-opening Crowell Open on Saturday.  He posted a time of 1:57.76, which was more than a half-second ahead of the second-place finisher.

Robbins, meanwhile, broke her own school record in the pole vault at the Crowell Open.  She cleared 3.87 meters (12 feet, 8¼ inches) on her third attempt to better her previous mark by two centimeters.  With that effort, which easily won the competition, Robbins qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships.

This is the sixth career MAAC weekly honor for Robbins, who was also selected as the ATAX Manhattan College Female Student-Athlete of the Week.  Bonaro was recognized by the conference for the first time.

Manhattan is back in action at the Seahawk Shootout on Friday afternoon.  Competition gets underway at 2 p.m.
