RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's lacrosse team will return to the friendly confines of Gaelic Park when the squad hosts Sacred Heart for a non-conference bout on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Jaspers will conclude their week when they hit the road for a 1 p.m. showdown with UMass Lowell on Sunday.
On Wednesday, Manhattan looks to halt its current three-game skid following a win over Bucknell in the team's season opener.
Senior Donna Jo DiNorcia (Verona, N.J. / Verona) (7G, 2A) and junior captain Megan Yarusso (Brewster, N.Y. / Brewster) (8G, 1A) lead the Jaspers with nine points apiece on the season.
Junior captain Kaitlyn Cunningham (Spring Lake, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) ranks third on the squad in points, with six.
Sacred Heart
The Pioneers enter the match winners of two in a row. After falling in its first two contests of the season, to Fairfield and Iona, Sacred Heart has stormed back with gutsy victories over Holy Cross and UMass Lowell. The two wins have come by a combined four goals.
The Pioneers seem to favor low scoring affairs in the eraly going, as they are 0-2 when allowing opponents to reach double digit goal totals, yet 2-0 when holding enemies to six goals or fewer.
Sophomore Kylie Calandra leads the squad with six goals on the season. Fellow sophomore Caitlin Delaney ranks second on the team, with four goals.
The Pioneers have a balanced attack, with nine different players recording goals over the team's first four games.
UMass Lowell
The River Hawks have gotten off to a tough start in 2015, losing four straight to open the year. The team dropped a 7-6 decision to Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Taylor Sokol leads the team with five goals and three assists for eight points.
UMass Lowell will not compete until hosting Manhattan on Sunday.
Following Sunday's meeting with the River Hawks, the Jaspers will return to action on Saturday, March 14, when they head south to battle UMBC. The opening draw control is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
