Four Golfers Added to 2014-15 Squad

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan Jaspers golf team, led by head coach Jerry Wood, has added four members to its roster for the 2014-15 season.

Following the graduation of senior leaders Chris Calabro, Jonathan Feuer and Paul Toohey, Manhattan looks upon the four freshmen to step in and make an immediate impact on a team that narrowly missed winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament in 2014.

Johnny Schob (Huntington, N.Y.) (Salisbury School) turned in some very impressive scores throughout his high school career. In 2013, Schob shot a 78 at Bonnie Briar Country Club in the Ike Qualifier. His low round of the year came at the Huntington Crescent Club, when he won the Metropolitan Professional Golfer's Association (Met PGA) Junior Tour event, with a score of 74. In 2012, Schob won the Winged Foot Junior Club Championship, with scores of 74, 72 and 68, giving him wins in back-to-back years at the tournament.

Jonny Slater (Old Tappan, N.J.) (Don Bosco Prep) was a New Jersey State Sectional Champion his freshman year, while playing for Old Tappan High School. After transferring to Don Bosco Prep, he played as the No. 1 golfer in both his sophomore and junior seasons, earning All-League accolades each year. Slater participated in numerous national golf tours, including American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events, where he placed in the top-5 on a number of occasions.

Charles Seward (Tampa, Fla.) (Freedom High School) lettered in golf for four years. Seward led his team to the state championship for the first time in school history after winning the district and placing second at regionals his senior year.

Ryan Lynch (Boynton Beach, Fla.) (Park Vista High School) earned one win and four top-5 finishes on the South Florida Professional Golfer's Association of America (SFPGA) Junior Tour. Lynch held an 18-hole average of 71 his junior year and was the 2012 Florida State Junior Team Champion. He shot a 71 (t-2) and helped his high school team shoot a county record 286 at the 2012 8A district tournament.

"The addition of these four talented freshmen will pay immediate dividends this year and through 2018," Coach Wood said. "With the strength of the returning roster, we expect to be a major factor in the MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference)."

The Jaspers open their fall schedule at the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devil Fall Invitational on Sunday, Sep. 7.
