Women's Lax Hosts Siena in First Home MAAC Contest of 2014

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Following their third one-goal loss of 2014 on Saturday afternoon, the Jaspers will spring back into action when they play host to the Siena Saints in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matchup on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Manhattan enters the game with a 2-7 overall record, and an 0-1 mark in MAAC play. Siena comes in at 2-8 on the season, including 0-1 in the MAAC.

In 2013, the Jaspers defeated the Saints 11-7 in Riverdale on Saturday, April 13.

For Manhattan, sophomore Megan Yarusso leads the team with 14 goals and 16 points, but four other players have reached double-digit points on the season. Junior Donna Jo DiNorcia rankes second on the team in points (15) with nine goals and six assists this spring. Senior Kelsey Rehain and junior Domenica O'Brey are tied for third on the team with 13 points apiece. Sophomore Stefanie Ranagan has added 11 points while also serving as a key component in Manhattan's effort to control draws.

Juniors Caitlin Hynes and Alex Rousseau have led the Jaspers defense. Hynes has caused a team-high eight turnovers. Rousseau and Yarusso have caused seven apiece.

Junior starting goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli leads the team with 21 ground balls, and has a 47.7 save percentage through nine games this season.

For Siena, Sarah Croutier leads the team with 28 points (20G, 8A). Erin Mossop and Alyssa Treanor have 19 points apiece and rank second on the team in the category. Six players have reached double digit points through the Saints first 10 games of 2014.

Freshman Julia Sirianni leads the team with 42 draw controls, a stat that Siena has outperformed its competition by an average of 2.9 per game in 2014.

Defensively, the Saints are led by Liz Strutzmann and Chrissy Primo, who have each caused nine turnovers this season. Briana Siriani has a team-high 21 ground balls, but nine other Saint have at least 10 on the year.

Following Wednesday's meeting with Siena, the Jaspers will stay home to take on the Fairfield Stags in a MAAC contest on Saturday, April 5. The opening draw is set for 7 p.m. The game will mark the middle contest of a three-game homestand.
