RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Jaspers will head south to duel the Delaware State Hornets on Saturday at 1 p.m. Manhattan is looking to win its second consecutive game.
The Hornets have had a difficult start to the 2014 season, dropping each of their first six contests. Emily Etkins leads the Delaware State attack with 14 goals on the season. She is the only player in Saturday's game to have reached double digits in the category thus far. The Hornets are searching for their first win of the season.
Manhattan played very well last Saturday when they came away with a convincing 13-6 victory over St. Joseph's. Sophomore Kaitlyn Cunningham notched a hat trick in the game. Sophomore Stefanie Ranagan was brilliant for the Jaspers. She controlled 11 draws in the meeting and also recorded three points (2G, 1A). Junior starting goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli made six saves in the outing and finished the day with an even 50.0 save percentage.
On the year, Ranagan leads the Jaspers with eight points (6G, 2A). Fiorinelli has a 52.4 save percentage and a team-high 17 ground balls in 2014.
Following Saturday's meeting with Delaware State, Manhattan will play two more non-conference games before stepping into Metro Athletic Atlantic Conference (MAAC) play on Saturday, March 29, when they take on Quinnipiac.
The Jaspers will next be in action on Wednesday, March 19, when they travel to Fairfield, Conn., to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers at 3 p.m.
