RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Freshman outfielder Christian Santisteban (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week for the final week of the season. It is the second time this year that he has earned the honor, also winning it on April 15.
Santisteban hit a combined .429 with five RBIs in Manhattan's season-ending series against Siena. In the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday, he drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning before ripping an RBI single in the sixth. Santisteban also scored a run in the game.
He then had two hits and three RBIs in the series finale on Friday. Santisteban drove in the Jaspers' first run with a first-inning sacrifice fly, and later belted a two-run single in the seventh. He added a double to finish 2-for-4 in the 6-5 Manhattan victory.
Santisteban is one of three Jaspers to earn a conference weekly award, joining pitcher Scott McClennan (March 25 & April 8) and catcher Ramon Ortega (March 25).
