RIVERDALE, N.Y. - After belting a pair of three-run homers in her first home game as a member of the Manhattan College softball team, freshman Elena Bowman (San Mateo, Calif.) has been selected Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week. Bowman reached base safely in six of seven plate appearances and drove in six runs in a doubleheader split with Hartford on Sunday.
In game one of the twinbill, a 12-2 Manhattan victory, Bowman connected on a three-run shot to center field in the second inning. She then crushed her second three-run bomb of the game in the sixth, a shot to right that ended the contest early via the eight-run rule. Bowman also doubled and scored in the fourth, finishing the game 3-for-3 with three extra base hits, three runs scored and six RBIs. She was also hit by a pitch three times in the two games.
Bowman and the Jaspers (1-4) are back in action on Wednesday, when they welcome St. John's (5-15-1) to Gaelic Park for a doubleheader. Game one of the twinbill gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
