BRONX, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's swim team jumped into fourth place at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on Saturday afternoon. The Jaspers have 523.5 team points and are a full 74.5 points ahead of fifth place Saint Francis Brooklyn.
It was the depth of Manhattan that helped propel the team towards the top of the team standings, seeing multiple swimmers earn points in multiple events. The 200 yard backstroke saw four different Jaspers finish in the top 15. Lance Neuendorf took third in the event with a time of 1:53.79 seconds, while RJ Meany and Chris Fusco finished 13th and 15th respectively. Rich Llewellyn also earned a top-10 finish, taking ninth in the 200 butterfly (1:58.17 seconds). He later finished 10th in the 200 free as well.
That trend continued in to the 200 breaststroke as Mike Mackay took fifth, finishing in 2:09.37 seconds and Dennis Daly placed ninth. In the 100 breast, Mackay again earned a top-5 finish as he placed fourth while Daly was seventh. Neuendorf added two individual top-10 finishes in the 100 back (7th-52.82 seconds) and 400 Individual Medley (10th- 4:16.41 seconds).
The Jasper relay teams performed well, adding two third place finishes to the teams docket. Ryan Klages, Llewellyn, PJ Sweeney and Neuendorf took third in the 800 free relay before Dallan Treanor, Llewellyn, Christopher Reyes and Klages did the same in the 200 free. Scott Isaacs also competed on day two, earning 101.55 points in the 1 meter dive event.
As for the women, they saw four top-15 finishes on day two. Kerry Schuermann posted two of those for the Jaspers. Her time of 2:13.75 seconds in the 200 back was good for 10th place before finishing 13th in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.88 seconds. She also finished 16th in the 100 fly (1:00.80 seconds).
The relay team of Madison Brown, Paige Raccioppi, Patricia Colton and Kim Geissler took 10th place in the 800 free relay with a time of 8:33.97 seconds. Raccioppi and Colton later combined with Whitney Perez and Vanessa L'Heureux to take ninth in the 200 free (1:42.92 seconds). Manhattan currently sits in 11th place with 184 points, just 14 points behind SUNY Oneonta for 10th place.
The ECAC's will conclude on Sunday at Lehman College.
