Captains Named for 2014 Baseball Season

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College juniors Chris Kalousdian and Michael Scarinci have been selected as captains of the 2014 baseball team, head coach Jim Duffy announced recently.

"I like the overall leadership on this team," Duffy said. "We have a number of solid leaders throughout each class. Some are more vocal and others lead more by example and performance. With that being said, the team got it right in voting Chris Kalousdian and Michael Scarinci as captains. Both are outstanding students, hard workers and selfless leaders who make people around them better both on and off the field."

Kalousdian recently received a medical hardship waiver after he missed most of the 2013 season due to an injury. Kalousdian started 38 of 50 games during the 2012 campaign as a sophomore and now has two years of eligibility remaining. He stole six bases, splitting his time between the infield and outfield.

Scarinci has been a mainstay of the Manhattan pitching staff during the past two years. In 2013, Scarinci appeared in 17 games and posted a 3.77 earned run average. He struck out 25 batters in 31 innings and held opponents to a .205 batting average.

The Jaspers open the 2014 season on Friday, February 21 at the Campbell Invitational against Delaware at 1 p.m.
