Manhattan (9-11, 3-0 MAAC) is riding a four-game winning streak, which began last weekend when the Jaspers took three straight contests at Siena. Jaspers' sophomore right-hander John Soldinger, the reigning MAAC Pitcher of the Week, delivered possibly his top performance of the season leading Manhattan to a 4-1 victory in the series opener with the Saints. Soldinger struck out a career-high 10 batters in the contest for his third victory. He harbors a team-leading 1.76 ERA this season.
The Jaspers are coming off a 9-1 rout of Fairleigh Dickinson in their home opener on Wednesday. Senior third baseman Chad Salem drove in his team leading 21st RBI and recorded his 11th multi-hit performance of the year against the Knights. Salem leads Manhattan batting .378 this season, and he has set the program's career records in home runs (36) and RBI (185). Jaspers' senior outfielders Mike McCann (10) and Mark Onorati (9) each carry notable hitting streaks into the weekend series with the Stags. Onorati has had the Jaspers' hottest bat over the last nine ballgames batting .444, recording seven multi-hit efforts. McCann is hitting .342 with 11 RBI and five doubles this year.
Manhattan and Fairfield are scheduled to play the final game of the set on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
