RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College rising senior Mark Onorati will participate in the 2010 New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game on Sunday, July 18 in Newport, R.I. at Cardines Field, home of the Newport Gulls, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Onorati will represent his summer league team, the Keene Swamp Bats of the Western Division. Jasper teammate Mike McCann will also participate in All-Star weekend as the Sanford Mainers representative in Home Run Derby and Skills Competition, which begins at 1:45 p.m.
Onorati leads Keene at the midseason break in runs scored (22), doubles (8) and stolen bases (8). He is tied for second on the team with 13 RBI and he is third with a .310 batting average. Onorati has started 28 of 30 games for the Swamp Bats playing several positions, including center field, second base, third base and designated hitter.
McCann is second on his team in batting average with a .302 mark over 22 appearances. He has accumulated 26 hits, including four doubles and two triples, with 14 runs scored and eight RBI. In addition to the Home Run Derby, McCann will compete in the outfield throwing competition.
Onorati and McCann return to Riverdale this fall for their final season patrolling the Manhattan outfield. The All-MAAC performers are coming off superb 2010 campaigns. As juniors, Onorati hit a scorching .391 with 79 hits, 51 RBI and 19 doubles over 49 starts, while McCann smashed 10 home runs, notched 17 doubles and had 56 RBI. Onorati and McCann are each .360 career hitters and have knocked in 259 combined runs for the Jaspers in their first three years with the program.
