ALBANY, N.Y. - Six Manhattan College women's basketball players have been named to the 2009-10 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team, the conference announced Thursday evening at the Times Union Center, site of this weekend's MAAC Basketball Championships. Highlighting the selections were juniors Alicia Marculitis (Worcester, Mass.) and Nadia Peters (Bronx, N.Y.) who both earned a place on the All-Academic squad for the second straight season.
Also earning All-Academic Team selections were sophomores Alyssa Herrington (Cambridge, N.Y.), Lindsey Loutsenhizer (North Huntingdon, Pa.), Laura Rivera (Elmont, N.Y.) and Kerri White (Flushing, N.Y.). In order to be named to the team, student-athletes must have completed at least two semesters at their institution and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20. Manhattan tied Marist and Niagara for the most women's selections in the league.
On the men's side, Manhattan junior Nick Walsh (Bronx, N.Y.) was selected to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
Both the men's and women's teams open MAAC Tournament play on Friday. The fourth-seeded Lady Jaspers (15-14) will take on Niagara (12-17) in the quarterfinals at 3:30 p.m., then the ninth-seeded men (10-19) play eighth-seeded Loyola (13-16) in a first-round game at 7:30 p.m.
