Riverdale, N.Y. -- The Manhattan College women's lacrosse team went out to an early three goal lead within the game's first five minutes, but couldn't keep the momentum going, falling to UMBC 20-7 in a match played at Gaelic Park.
Phelicia VanOverbeke led the Lady Jaspers with two goals and an assist, while Tara Convery, Helen Kerrisk, Julia Lavelle and Elizabeth Dugan each tallied a goal each.
On the defensive end, Kerrisk, Keri Morrison, Breana Leonard and Dugan picked up three ground balls each. UMBC (now 6-3) outshout Manhattan (now 1-6) 36-26 on the day. Lady Jasper netminder Julia DiBernardo posted 10 saves.
For UMBC, Bria Phillips and Emily Coady each tallied five goals.
Manhattan went out to a 4-1 lead in the first five minutes, but then UMBC scored seven unanswered goals in the next 19 minutes to take an 8-4 lead, a lead they would never relinquish.
Manhattan's next game will be at Lafayette Wednesday afternoon in Easton, Pa.
