Manhattan Announces 2011 Softball Schedule

2011 Manhattan Softball Schedule

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Head Coach Tom Pardalis unveiled the 2011 Manhattan College softball schedule on Friday.  The 49-game slate features nine home doubleheaders at Gaelic Park, including a season-opening twinbill against Hartford on March 6.

After taking on the Hawks, the Lady Jaspers head south for their annual trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.  Manhattan plays 10 games in the Sunshine State from March 11-16, then gets just one day off before participating in the Seton Hall Pirate Classic from March 18-20.  The Lady Jaspers then host doubleheaders with Columbia (March 24) and Lafayette (March 26), which is now coached by former Manhattan Head Coach Meaghan Asselta, before wrapping up the month of March with twinbills at Quinnipiac (March 27) and Wagner (March 31).

The Lady Jaspers get a week off before hosting Stony Brook on April 7, then they head to Buffalo to begin Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.  Manhattan takes on Niagara, the school that has knocked it out of the last two MAAC Tournaments, on April 9 and defending MAAC regular season champion Canisius on April 10.  The Lady Jaspers visit Albany for a non-conference doubleheader on April 13 before opening their home conference slate against Siena on April 16.  Manhattan hosts Marist on April 17, then wraps-up its season-long six-game homestand with a twinbill against Fairleigh Dickinson on April 20.

Manhattan has Easter weekend off before concluding non-conference play at Monmouth on April 26.  The Lady Jaspers finish April by hosting Rider (April 30) before paying a visit to Fairfield the following day.  Manhattan's final home doubleheader will be against Saint Peter's on May 7.  The Lady Jaspers then conclude the regular season by making the short trip north to New Rochelle for a twinbill with defending MAAC champion Iona on May 8.

This season's MAAC Softball Championships will take place at Gartland Field in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., from May 12-14.  The Lady Jaspers have played in the last two MAAC Tournaments and are looking to qualify for the event in three successive seasons for the first time since going four straight years from 1993-96.
